![]() The Big River is a relatively safe, slow-moving Ozark stream, with scenic bluffs and many gravel bars for picnics, swimming and artifact hunting. Francois State Park serve as a natural refuge from modern-day life for thousands of visitors each year.Ĭherokee Landing is a small outfitter and the only one on this portion of the Big River, so you will not find the over-crowded condition of other rivers. Cool off by taking a dip in a swimming hole or along the river’s edge. Fishermen enjoy casting for bass, catfish and sunfish. This Ozark stream is ideal for families and canoeists. Scenic dolomite bluffs overlook the river and grassy forest openings known as glades occur on several of the south-facing slopes. The Big River marks the southern boundary of the park. Float through the forested ridges and cool hollows of St. Big River is a tributary of the Meramec River, flowing north to the confluence. Early French settlers named the river Grande due to its beauty and during translation to English the name “Big” evolved. You will avoid the crowds of many of Missouri’s float rivers, while enjoying the relaxing natural surroundings of this Northern Ozarks stream. *Each float trip includes: life jackets for all floaters, oars/paddles, bags for trash, and transportation.NOTICE: Due to limited capacity reservations are highly recommended. ![]() Pets are not allowed in rafts, but are welcome in canoes or kayaks. ![]() Rafts may need to launch earlier in the day based on water conditions. This can be done by calling the store a few days before your float, or during check in, assuming you are staying with us a day or more before your float. Shuttles cannot be booked online so please call to arrange your shuttle.įloat Scheduling: While your float trip can be reserved online, this only guarantees your float for the day. For $25 you have access to use of our private river access, shuttle service, and our team handles hauling your boat. No cars are allowed at our lower float take out.įloat Shuttles are offered if you have your own float equipment. During this float, you will leave your car at the HVO property at your put in, and will be shuttled back at the end of your float. Our lower float provides a lot of great fishing on the river, on locations that are not accessible from any public areas. The trip usually takes 5.5 to 6.5 hours to. Our lower float is an 8.5 mile float that begins at the HVO campground and RV Park. Please check with the store to see if this option is available at the time of year you are looking to float. The float only operates based on current water level. ![]() The river on this trip is a little more shallow than our lower float providing a lot of areas for families to stop, swim and have a snack or lunch. The last mile of the trip will take you right in front of Bennett Spring State park, where the spring runs into the river. Our upper float is a 5.5 mile float that ends at the HVO campground and RV Park. Since we have private river access your rafts, boats, kayaks, oars, & life jackets will always be ready for you on the river bank.
